Membership in the San Diego Harmony Ringers ensemble is by annual audition.  Members contribute dues semi-annually toward the purchase of music and other expenses incurred by the organization.

Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 7:00-9:30pm at Faith Presbyterian near the campus of San Diego State University.  We typically have 15-20 performances in public and private venues throughout the year, with the busiest time being between Thanksgiving and the New Year.  Prospective ringers must be able to make the considerable commitment to attend all rehearsals and performances as to be expected of an advanced musical ensemble.

Auditions consist of a 15-minute individual session with focus on reading, rhythm, and technique.  A handbell group session is also held to examine blend, dynamics, and musicality.  All membership positions are auditioned annually, with successful candidates determined by the artistic director.  For further information or to arrange an audition appointment, please conact the SDHR auditions coordinator at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. For those who have found us and missed the most recent audition, we welcome visitors to our rehearsals who are willing to ring and substitute.  While substitutes are officially considered non-members, they enjoy many of the benefits and challenges of ringing with an advanced group.  Substitutes are often given the opportunity to ring at concerts and other events.

If you are interested in auditioning or substituting and are curious about our current repertoire, the 2011 season includes pieces such as:

  • Fantasy on King's Weston, arr.  Fred Gramann (Level 5)
  • Procession of the Nobles, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, arr. Kevin McChesney (Level 3+)
  • Bell Carol Fantasy, arr. A. Sherman (Level 5)
  • Marche from the Nutcracker Suite, Tchaikovsky, arr. W. Griffin (Level 5+)
